Zemlinsky Quartet won string quartet competition in Bordeaux


Just a few days ago, the Zemlinsky Quartet has won the 6th Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition.

Nine quartets from Czech Republic, France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, USA and Canada gathered in one of the most important areas for French wine, and during three rounds they performed works by Haydn, Arriaga, Zemlinsky, Berg, Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Beethoven and the piece commissioned for the competition – the 3rd string quartet by a French composer Gilbert Amy.

The „1er Grand Prix“ contains not only financial reward of 20.000 EUR, but also a concert tour in France, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium, four bows by French bowmaker Mr. Jean-Luc Tauziède, recording of a CD and a bottle of luxurious wine presented by wine producers from the Bordeaux area – proud sponsors of the competition.

1st prize „1er Grand Prix“: Zemlinsky Quartet (Czech Republic)
